Talk/demonstration: "Klassical Music: Keyboards"
* * * * * * * * *
WHERE: Q.E.D. Astoria
27-16 23rd Avenue
Astoria, NY 11105
Through photos, sound recordings, & videos, organist & harpsichordist Nancy Kito presents a brief overview of the keyboard instruments of classical music, all in a non-stuffy, non-intimidating atmosphere. You've SEEN a piano but what the heck is a harpsichord? (you know, that thing Lurch plays) and how does a pipe organ differ from a piano (and did you know that it's not just a church instrument?).
Other burning questions such as "why do organists wear funny shoes?" and "what's the difference between a harp and a harpsichord?" will be addressed. An off-site visit to Grace Lutheran Church (Astoria) to see an actual pipe organ in person will end this informal talk.
